Why a Smart Energy Policy can Include Coal

As an energy industry marketing firm Krishnan & Associates develops specialized technical and commercial content for our energy industry clients. Here is an example of an article that we wrote and published for our client in the energy industry:

A pulverized coal plant in the US is an example of how combining the right operational model with best-in-class technologies can produce affordable, reliable and secure power with the lowest possible environmental impact.

While energy policymakers and power industry leaders disagree on how to transition to a clean, reliable, and affordable power delivery system, they all agree on one thing: a portfolio of fuel and technology options is the best strategy for meeting our future energy needs while enduring the ongoing uncertainty in the energy sector.

The corollary is even more important: over-reliance on a single technology or fuel can have disastrous consequences. This can be seen today in Japan's power industry following the Fukushima nuclear disaster, in oil exporting countries where oil prices are more than half what they were a year ago, and in the United States where heavy frame gas turbines were being sold on eBay at rock bottom prices following the collapse of the combined-cycle build boom in 2006.
