Safeguarding Industrial Dust Collection During Temperature Spikes and Excursions
Virtually all industrial processes generate emissions that require robust collection systems to ensure process efficiency, reliability, safety, and environmental compliance. Pulse-jet filter baghouses have proven to be the most versatile type of collection devices for addressing harsh conditions common to many industrial dust collection applications. Careful selection of the fabric filter bag material in baghouses is critical to managing these conditions. In many cases, thermal durability becomes the critical factor. When the upper-temperature limit of the fabric is exceeded during short temperature spikes or longer overages, filter degradation and eventual failure occur. Temperature spikes, which can cause sudden catastrophic failures such as melting and catching fire, can result from process & fuel source changes or maintenance activity. Less obvious filter bag failure modes are attributable to physical changes, including embrittlement and shrinkage.
